“But I know you! You’re the girl who works at the gym” I told Maria the moment I met her in person. Maria works at the gym close to our place and she was the one at the reception when I decided to enrol (it was my New Year Resolution in 2016, but I quit in the meantime – don’t follow my lazy example!).
Jonathan is from an Irish family, but he grew up in Torres Vedras, a small town close to Lisbon (which is where we live too). Being Irish, rugby has been part of his life ever since he was a kid. And it was thanks to rugby that he met Maria.
Jonathan was playing in one of the few rugby teams in Portugal and this was where he met Maria’s brother and through him he met Maria. One thing led to another and soon they were dating.
He proposed to Maria after a match and all the rugby team played along and helped him with the proposal. When Jonathan told us the story we just wished we were there to document it ๐
Their wedding took place north-west of Lisbon in the so called western region of Portugal, or as the locals call it, the “Oeste”, in a place nestled between beautiful vineyards and the wild Atlantic ocean.
At the beginning of the day the sun was bright and shiny but once the ceremony finished it started to rain heavily – although the rain didn’t really affect anyone’s mood, it did frustrate us a bit because it prevented us from shooting outdoor Maria’s and Jonathan’s wedding portraits.
To get those portraits they decided to have a Trash the Dress session a few days after the wedding. That day we took our 6-year-old son Diego with us, who also helped and took some photos (check the pictures below).
And do you know what Jonathan gave him as pay for his “first job”? Yes, that’s right: a rugby ball ๐
